Tin futures in the UK climbed to $54,000 per tonne, rebounding from a more than two-month low of $51,880 hit on September 14th, as renewed momentum in AI-related trades brightened the outlook for global tin demand. Robust utilization rates from AI agents launched by Meta boosted shares of chipmakers and data center developers, in turn supporting tin prices given their close correlation this year. Tin consumption continued to be supported by electrification initiatives and AI infrastructure build-outs, reflecting the metal’s wide-ranging applications in data centers and battery storage systems. Its soldering properties, which are critical for precision connections in AI infrastructure, have led industry participants to project that tin demand for AI servers will triple by 2030. On the supply side, exports from major producer Indonesia remained constrained as Jakarta scaled back the issuance of export licenses. In addition, authorities tightened mining permit rules and seized 500 tonnes of tin from unlicensed operations.
